It has been suc- cessfully employed there in demolishing fortifications and in blasting the enemy out of his trenches, AATiile the general character of roads and bridges in the United States will undoubtedly operate to restrict the use of the large-caliber guns and howitzers in field warfare, there is no question of the feasibility of their employment as movable coast artillery along our coastal railroads.
