Even if you are walking my way as you read this, it is too late. I have had my visitor. Need I say how my heart lifted when I was told that somebody wanted to see me? I assumed it would be you, preened myself in readiness, swallowed the lump in my throat so that this time I might be able to speak to you. I was so intent on looking for your compact, delightful form, that at first I didn’t notice my own son waiting for me. Mind you, my son was the last person I expected to see – and besides, he ha...d changed beyond all recognition. His hair, which should be as golden as mine, now looks like the aftermath of a failed chemistry experiment.
Did I already mention my great big, baby boy? If not let me say now that I’m blessed with one son, aged eighteen, who likes to be known as Bing. Maybe I should add that I’ve been a rather average mother and consequently my son has managed, in his comparatively short life, to get himself into a great deal of trouble. Whatever; he’s a sweet boy. Not about to win any prizes for conversation or deportment, but basically sound.
