Massive rocky frameworks haveresisted the action of the waves, but softer measures have yielded;the shore has been licked into hollows, basins, caves, by continuouswater-action, and the process continues unendingly. One remarkableexcavation of this kind is the Devil's Frying-pan, covering about twoacres, which the sea enters through an archway of rock at high tides;the pit is nearly 200 feet deep.
