What reading level is The Cost of Mining a Discussion of the Production of Minerals With Remarks On book?
To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:

The Douglas Fir, otherwise known as the Oregon Pine, forms an immense forest on Vancouver Island but farther northward this tree no longer appears, its place being taken by heavy growths of cedar and spruce. The long periods of damp cloudy weather seem to be favorable to numerous fernlike plants such as one finds in the rainy regions of the tropics.
The coast ranges seem to have been uplifted slowly across the courses of rivers which take their rise in the interior. These streams were able duri
...ng the uplift of the mountains to continue to cut their way through, thus producing the canyons referred to, which have become inlets that extend back in many cases more than 100 miles. During the glacial period the whole country was covered with ice and each of the inlets was occupied by such portions of the general glacier that flowed faster than the rest so that at present their walls are thoroughly smoothed and polished.
The visitor from other regions is astonished to see the swamp growth climbing up the sides of some of these steep mountains.
