" Morell collapses, thinking it is all over, but the poet knows in a moment that the sentence has gone against him. The play ends with an explanation from Candida why Morell is weak and Eugene strong. The poet goes away without bitterness, and husband and wife fall into each other's arms. But, we are told, that neither of them know the secret which is in the poet's heart.
