The most car...efully elaborated work of Ross demonstrated that the above- mentioned sporulating cycle occurring in human blood did not form the complete life-cycle of the parasite, but had to be refreshed and sup- plemented after a certain number of generations, by a sexual cycle, according to a very well- known law for many lowly animal organisms.
This second cycle was shown by Ross to occur in the stomachs of certain species of mosquitoes of a particular genus called Ano- pheles, which breeds in the marshes and small ponds and puddles near malaria-ridden districts.
