Don't worry about that. Besides, I can run if I have to. I just don't want to." He nodded, but the look in his eyes told me he didn't quite believe me. I gave him a serious look. "I haven't given up yet, Eli. Go check the road. I'll be right here." He picked up the rifle and jogged down the hill to the pavement. I leaned back against the tree and closed my eyes.
