His customers then began to drop off, A few of them saying, in words rather rough.
He 'd put the nigh-shoe on the off-horse's hoof.
Of which kind of rum-work they 'd had enough.
And others, too gentle to scold or to swear, Grew tired of finding him present so rare : They came where he was, and he was n't there, So they took their jobs to a smithy elsewhere.
His customers thus from many were few.
And shortly from much he 'd nothing to do, And all his affairs began to look blue.
