What reading level is The Earths Magnestism book?
To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:
" COMPLEXITY OF THE EARTH'S MAGNETISM. Reference has already been made to Halley's attempts, before his magnetic expedition, to establish a theory respecting the phenomena of the compass needle. Thus in 1683 he published in the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society " A Theory of the Variation of the Magnetical Compass, " and in 1692, in the same Transactions, " An Account of the Cause of the Change of the Variation of the Magnetic Needle. " In these papers Halley rejected the hypothes...is which had been accepted up to that time and on the basis of which elaborate tables of the magnetic declination had been constructed by previous investigators, namely, that the directions assumed by a compass needle in various parts of the Earth could be accounted for by a simple magnetisation parallel to a diameter so that the magnetic poles would be diametrically opposite to each other. While the conclusion reached by him that " the whole Globe of the Earth is one great Magnet having four Magnetical Poles, or Points of Attrac- tion, near each Pole of the Equator Two, " has, in a certain sense, been found to be incorrect, nevertheless, this view appears to have been the first definite recognition of the heterogeneity or complexity of the Earth's magnetic condition.
