As the master of the schooner and his boat with the crew were still missing, the "Dwarf" put to sea to search for them. We embarked an officer belonging to the British consulate to act as inter- preter, and also a Japanese official, that the governor of Nagasaki requested we should take with us to ensure that we received every assistance from the towns, villages, and places we might call at in our efforts to find the boat and people.
