Employed in the record of creation, this allegory is resumed in the Revelation of St. John, where it is connected with the new creation of the new heaven and the new earth. 1 The meaning of it is thus determined. The fruit of the Tree of Life is that supernatural grace which raises man beyond his own natural powers. Such grace was freely bestowed upon him in his original state.
We know by experience and by revelation the effect of grace in man as he now is ; the effect upon original man is less definitely known.
