Having once adopted the more complex section-system, Dickens would seem to have been pleased with it, since it reappears in Little Dorrit, A Tale oj Two Cities^ and Our Mutual Friend. In all of these, construction (calling for exposition in its expression) is conspicuous. In Little Dorrit the thesis to be expounded is the effect on character of the change from poverty to wealth; it falls, therefore, into two books called " Poverty " and " Riches.
