Under the microscope the section of this rock shows a quantity of opaque, finely-vesicular scoria, similar to that described as occurring in the preceding specimens (and which it was suggested might represent pumice). Here and there it seems that the rock is composed of fragments of this m...aterial. The vesicles are filled with siliceous matter, which has a very finely granular appearance when seen between crossed nicols, and similar substance surrounds the scoriaceous fragments. It is quite possible that the frag- 34 EKUPT1VE EOCKS OP BRENT TOR.
mentary aspect of this rock under the microscope may be deceptive, since the interspaces between the seeming fragments of scoria may merely represent sections of large, irregularly shaped vesicles which have like the smaller ones been filled up with siliceous matter.
