On the 27th of December, the town council for 1849 was elected, the number of votes cast being three hundred and forty-seven. The members elected were Stephen C. Harris, W. D. M. Howard, George C. Hubbard, Robert A. Parker, Thomas J. Roach, John Sirrine, and John Town- send. The old town council of 1848 was opposed to the continuance of the new one, because a certain number of unqualified persons had voted at the election, and therefore ordered a new election.
