It starts opposite the east- ern centre of the Capitol ; a grand wide road that leads on to the Anacostia or " eastern branch " of the Potomac. THE EAST CENTRAL PORTICO OF THE CAPITOL.
This Portico is grandly imposing. The pediment rests on massive columns of stone of the Corinthian order. The shafts of these columns are thirty feet high.
