“Max?”

I know Dr. Ryland said we should feed the situation to him slowly, but I couldn’t lie to him, Alex.” Another tissue. “I couldn’t. He’d see it in my eyes if I tried to lie anyway. So I took a deep breath, tried to find the right words and told him.” She looked at him with red-rimmed eyes. “He was asking for the truth. How could I not tell him?”
Alex took her hand.
