White river descends from the Russell glacier on its northern flank, and is accompanied by a high range on the south. North of the sources of the White river are the Nutzotin mountains, the highest peak of which (over 10,000 feet) has received from Mr. A. H. Immediately south of the Tanana the Alaskan range breaks up into isolated groups, one of which culminates in Mouut Kimball, 10,000 feet high, east of the Delta river, while Mount Hayes, to the west of this river, rises to 14,000 feet.
