After this has been faithfully done, the student should carefully read rule FOURTH — LIMITED, and go ou with the spelling :— beginning with the little thre^-letter words of the fifth class.
B^"Be sure to use rule fourth— lim- ited, in all cases, hereafter, where it is possible to do so, in connection with any of the other rules, because Rule Fourth — Limited, always has the " right of way."* RULE SECOND FOR SPELLING Blend a consonant and a vowel If there is only one consonant stand- ing before the vowel, then this is the rule: ^^ Any consonant standing before any vowel, in the same syllable, or the same short word, may be blended with the vowel by sounding the consonant and naming the vowel in the same breath, as if the two letters were but one; then name each of the remaining letters, one, two, or three; and then pronounce the syllable, or the short word.
