What reading level is The Gas Engine book?
To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:
The greater weight of fuel, the more perfectly proportioned mixture, and the absence of dilution by inert gases all act to produce a greater impulse on the piston than is obtained when there has been no cut-out. A greater increase of speed during the first impulse after several cut-outs is the natural result. Even with a single cut-out the energy of the following explosion is greater than that of one following an immediately preceding explosion. 76. Modem Modified Method of Cutting out Charges.... Four- Cycle Motor. — At least one modem gas-engine builder has introduced a cut-out device that reduces the objectionable speed variation of this method to a considerable extent and completely eliminates the drawing in of exhaust gases. In this method the mechanical inlet valve is opened by a rotating cam with one lobe, and the exhaust valve by an exhaust cam in the same manner. They are both attached to a shaft that rotates at half the speed of the crank shaft as long as explosions are needed regularly.
