In June 1770, on the death of Lord Mayor Beckford, M. P. For the City, Thos. Oliver of Leyton *4 was selected to succeed him, but being seized with a dangerous fever, Richard Oliver took his place and was returned without opposition as M, P. On 1 1 July, and as Alderman of Billingsgate Ward on 14 July.
