What reading level is The Greatness And Decline of Rome 4 book?
To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:
It brought letters from Agrippa and Maecenas, telling Octavianus that the soldiers who had been disbanded without rewards were disturbing the whole of Italy, and threatening to commit the gravest outrages if they were not treated like their comrades who had been discharged before them ; Agrippa had been un- able to quell the agitation and Octavianus himself must return without delay.t This was certainly the last great danger which Octavianus was obliged to face ; if Antony heard of it he would ...regain courage and send his agents to Italy to enlist these desperate veterans. Antony and Cleopatra held the treasure of the Ptolemies, and this, though their last resource, was tiot to be despised when an army was in mutiny to secure arrears of pay. Octavianus realised the critical nature of the situation, and promptly despatched a ship with a letter in which he gave orders that as many veterans as possible should be sent to Brundisium ; shortly afterwards he himself embarked upon this winter voyage, which was then regarded as a most dangerous enterprise.
