Plato, the most religious of the great philosophers, while indebted to Orphism for part of his ethical and psychical system, is inspired by the higher ideas of the contemporary polytheism in some of his moral reflections, especially in regard to his theory of family duties. This is most prominent in his Laws, the dullest and worst written of all his treatises, but perhaps the most valuable for the reflection it gives of the moral and religious world of his time.
