On Jiily 23, 1825, it was esti- mated that four thousand persons had arrived at Detroit since the opening of navigation, and the sum of $60,310 had been received at Detroit for land sold in that district alone since the first of May.^^ The next year saw an increase in transportation facilities, and Niles\ Register for June 3, 1826, report ed,^^ "The Steamboat Henry Clay, the first vessel for the season, arrived at Detroit from Buffalo, May 8.
