The General instructed the messenger to say to his captain, "that he might come over securely under the pledge of his word," and then sent over for them the boat; and they crossed over. The Adelantado received them very well, with only ten of his followers ; the others he directed to stay some distance off among some bushes, so that their number might appear to be greater than it was.
