Persons attracted by the. sound of the pistol rushed to where Hamilton was and upon examination it was found that the ball bad struck a bone and passed around the body, and although the wound was a serious one it was not necessarily fatal, as none of the vital organs wer^ injured. After suifering from the eifects of the wound for several weeks Hamilton finally recovered suiSciently to walk around, and in a few days he mysteriously disappeared, since which time nothing definite is known as to hi...s whereabouts. A rumor to the efied; that he proceeded to Oalifornia, where he now resides, has been current at tiroes; but whether or not the rumor be true is known to but few, if any, in the county* Shortly atler Hamilton's disappearance, suit was brought by the county i^ainst bis bondsmen to reeaver the sum of $0,600, the amount of defai- cation. A number of the bondsmen were in favor of paying the amount, but one of their number contested the matter in the courts. Judgment was rendered in favor of tl^ county and the bondsmen were oompelTed to pay it in full.
