And in this impotent anger, he exhausted well-nigh all his energies. He refused to follow the advice of those of his ministers who recommended him to apply to France for assistance, choosing rather to attempt to ward off the evil by summoning some Catholic regi- ments from Ireland, and revoking a few of the most obnoxious of his late measures.
