After personally investigating the unsettled state of the district His Excellency re- embarked on the 10th of April. On April 19th a schooner d...esigned by Mr. Cutfield, and built at Moturoa in front of Barrett's farm, by Messrs. Rundle, Clare, and others, was launched and named by Miss Anna Rundle the " Taranaki. " On June 3rd the ship Cresswell arrived from London, bringing Mr. E. J. Cudd and the Kelly family. In August the whole of the male adult population were sworn in as special constables, and a strict account of arms was taken. On August 19th the ship Duke of Portland, Capt. Seymour, arrived from Auckland with 250 rank and file of the 58th Regiment, ten officers, 13 non-commissioned officers, three drummers, detachments of Artillery and Sappers, and several field pieces.
