In the next year, however, TORSTENSON was recalled, and returned by the way of Bremen, Hamburg, Lu- beck, Rostock, and Denmark. Immediately on his arrival home, on the 23d October, 1624, he was, in the castle of Gripsholm, de- clared capable of bearing arms, which was done by acknowledg- ing the young nobleman to have attained man's estate, and gird- ing him, according to the old custom, with a sword, in order therewith to defend himself. In the ensuing year, when the king invaded Prussia, he was promoted to a Captaincy ; in 1627, became Lieutenant-Colonel of four companies of Non-land's Infantry, arid in 1628, Colo7iel of the same Regiment, whose numerical force was then doubled at the head of which he distinguished himself, espe- cially at Marienburg.
