Its title indicates sufficiently the olyect of the institution, which is both well filled and well sustained. ST. Luke's hospital, At the corner of Fifth Avenue and Fifty-fourth street, is an admirable charity instituton, sustained by members of the Episcopal Churches of New York. the new YORK JUVENILE ASYLUM, A stone edifice, situated near High Bridge, is a home and re- formatory for neglected children. The asylum, by its charter becomes the legal guardian £)f all such children as may be commi...tted to it by the voluntary act of their parents or by the precept of a police magistrate. The institution owes its origin to Dr. J. E. Russ of this city, so favorably known for his exertions in establishing the New York Institution for the Blind. The success of the institution has been largely promoted by A. R. Wetmore, Esq. , who has been its president and financier almost from its organization. It occupies about 20 acres of ground, which is in part cultivated by the children who, during their stay in the asylum, are instructed in all the branches of a common school education.
