They had gone out of their way to be pleasant to her, Caro even offering to share a set of gloves that would perfectly complement Amelia’s gown. They did not know how much Turner had heard in the corridor, and they could not be certain the maid had not gone carrying tales to her mistress.
Their behavior with John had only confirmed the fact.
