Stepping outside, I found that the man's statement was not far from the truth ; for a great dust-cloud, very nearly black in colour and extending across half the horizon, was advancing from the west. People were A SAND-STORM 197 flying in all directions seeking shelter, and the village herds went by at a trot with the boys behind them, shouting, "Andi ata ; bhago " ("A storm is coming; fly").
