Pld prejudices and customs cannot be got rid of in a month, a year, a decade, or a century, and it is not surprising that it has required a period equal to half the life of the Christian era to bring the land sys- tems of the civilized world up to their present state of advanced perfection. And in this great humanizing and civilizing process the legal profession has always stood in the very first rank.
