On the con- trary, we will protect him in its possession ; nay, we will even permit him to dispose of it as he pleases, by gift or otherwise, down to the last moment of his life ; but, when the breath passes from his body, his control o...ver it shall cease, and it shall then be divided among those whom it was his natural duty to love.
Having acquired its possession under the generous protection of the laws, he shall not be allowed to tyrannize over it after he is dead, by aggrandizing one successor at the expense of several equally deserving heirs, who may perhaps become paupers or criminals to burden or perplex the State." 10 THE LAND LAWS OF FRANCE.
