The Chinese vessels were so close together that they began to be afraid of hitting each other, and stopped firing.

The Hiyei which had escaped the torpedoes, was attacked by the Ting-yuen, whose great shell struck the ward-room and killed a large number, including Chief Surgeon Miyake and Paymaster Ishizaka.
