A good amount of knowledge has come down to us about the Ancient Mysteries ; and yet there is much that is uncertain regarding some parts of them. A work upon them by a properly qualified writer, who could bring all the knowledge of the day to bear on the subject, would be a valuable addition to our literature. The examples of initiatory rites already given in these pages will enable us to apply the com- parative method, at least as far as it will go, and fortunately it will be found to be almost enough for our present purpose.
