Mehemet Ali, as an Albanian, was really more Greek than Turk, though professing and reared in the latter faith, in which he brought up his family also. But he was no fanatic even more liberal in matters of faith than most Turks, who are models in the matter of toleration, unless their fanatical fervour is violently roused and so men served him faithfully, he cared little for the creeds they professed.
