Henry Sherwood was not displaced on the passing of this Act : but he resigned, Hilary Term, 4 Vic, Novem- ber 2, 1840, as his ' ' other avocations are such as to pre- vent his attending to the duties as" he "ought." He had hoped to bring the Reports up to date, but owing to his notes and some papers being mislaid, he had not suc- ceeded : he agreed, however, to use every exertion in con- junction with his successor to furnish a correct report of the cases which had been determined during his te...rm of office. This does not appear to have been achieved: we have no reports of cases decided between Hilary Term, 7 Win. IV. (1837) and Hilary Term, 4 Vic. (1840), a gap of three years. At the meeting of November 7, 1840, Sherwood's resignation was accepted and John Hillyard Cameron 6 appointed Reporter under the Statute subject to the ap- proval and confirmation of the Judges. Cameron had already (November 3rd) begun to report, having -been requested by Sherwood to serve as locum tenens •. he con- tinued to be Reporter until 1846, when he resigned, upon being appointed Solicitor General for Canada West.
