And he had turned these opportunities to the best account. He went back to the scene of his past labors a wiser man, ■with reinvio;orated health and renewed energies : and if I were asked at what period of his career he was in the very zenith of his intellectual strength and efficiency, I should answer, at the point which this narrative has now reached.
