He managed to ride to St. Albans, but was compelled to lie down there. He could get no sleep day or night. A severe boil on the neck gave him great pain. He also seems to have hurt his hand by the fall. With considerable difficulty he got back to London, but for six weeks he was mostly confined to the house.
