P. 5; Vol. 15, pp. 175, 238, 240, 380. 383, ( 98) ceived his grant of the territory ol New Amsterdam from his brother King Charles II. , and Edmond Andros was made Governor General, who in 1675 purchased the territory between the Delaware and the Susquehanna from the Indians, and on hearing of the misfortune of t*he Susquehan- nocks made an effort to have them re- turn to his province. In August, 1676, we find (19) them building a new fort, which, it is stated, is in the Duke of York's province, which was certainly near the fortieth parallel, and east of the Susquehanna.
