's 95th Regi- ment were then quartered. After a few months' visit I took a licking to soldiering on account of having two brothers in the Service, and I took ''SOME MUTINEERS HAD MUTINIZEDr 253 and enlisted for my brothers' regiment, and joined the band, and took to learn an instrument, the " Clarinett, " which I am at present master off. My other two brothers are splendid musicians, one of which (John) is now at Kneller Hall Music School training for a bandmaster there ; the other (Bernard) is... band sergeant, that is the young man from whom you used to receive letters. The regiment stopped in England for a short period, until the Crimean War broke out, then embarked in April 1854 on board the steamship Himalaya with one thousand men of all ranks — as fine a body of men as ever stood on the battlefield — for the Crimea. I went through the whole campaign, also my brothers, without ever being touched — thanks be to God for all his mercies towards us all. After enduring the hardships of that horrid campaigne, and Peace proclaimed, the regiment were then ordered home, only for a short time to stay.
