They thus hold the top rolls tightly down. Reasons for Studying Defects: A great many of the precautions necessary to observe in rolling the semi-finished products have been mentioned at various times in preceding pages. However, as failure to observe the proper precautions in rolling gives rise to defects in the material which may show up in the finished article and as the reader may be par- ticularly interested in this phase of the business, it is thought that a list of rolling defects and their causes may be found useful and interesting.
