What reading level is The Meaning of Evolution book?
To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:
There is another set of organs in the mammalian skin. At the base ofeach hair lies an oil gland. The function of these is to pour out asubstance which spreads along each hair and over the surface of thebody. The outside of the skin is always dead, and would easily crackwere it not for the constant secretion of this oil. In winter, whenthe blood circulates less freely and these glands consequently pourout less oil, the supply frequently runs short. If what little ispoured out is too frequently r...emoved by washing, the skin becomesbrittle, and, on bending a joint, the epidermis cracks. The gloss ofthe hair is due to the oil thus poured out. This oil becomes oneingredient in the milk produced by the transformed gland. But thereis another important constituent. When one does unaccustomed manualwork the ordinary result is the formation of a blister. The epidermis, or scarfskin, becomes detached from the dermis, or true skin, and thespace between the two rapidly fills with the fluid portion of theblood, known as lymph.
