It was rather because of the intensity of her desire for perfection in herself and others, of the fierceness of her longing to see Christ's kingdom thrive and grow in... the hearts of men and of the strength of her conviction of the invincibility of the power of a human individual allied to the World's Redeemer and absolutely yielded to the will of God, that she bemoaned her shortcomings in zeal and effort, and lamented her own feebleness as the occasion of worse feebleness in others. Catherine knew herself to be one to whom much had been given — much of illumination, perception, judgment, self-knowledge and self-control. From herself, therefore, and upon her Bridegroom's business, she required much.
