Though the manufac- ture of power gives practically unlimited power where and when we need it, the cost of the machines to manufacture and use that power must be in some measure pro- CAPITAL 33 portionate to its amount ; but the larger the tool or the greater the combination of smaller tools, the less the amount of human labor re- quired to direct these tools in proportion to the power which they develop or use.
