The word "therefore," with which this chapter is introduced, refers us back to the preceding chapter, in the latter part of which the apostle rebukes some who had been hearing the gospel for years, and had been professors of religion for some time, and yet had made no advancement in the divine life. When they ought to have been able to teach others, they had need to be taught the first principles of the goppel.
