THE Polish language is spoken by some twenty millions of people in central pAirope. Since the suspension, more than a century ago, of the political independence of the Poles, the Polish language has been the chief bond of Polish nationality.^ So well has it fulfilled this function that the population of Poland is to-day as homogeneous as ever in the past.
