The offerings at the Eucharist were made to him : they were distributed by the deacons : in the account of the Eucharist which is given by Justin Martyr the presbyters have no place at all ^^ : and in the later and more elaborate ritual which is preserved in the Apostolical Constitutions their place is altogether insignificant •^.
