Excepting the illustrations of an Alma- nac, published at Florence in 1464, the earliest Italian prints, from plates engraved for the purpose of publication and of which the date is ascertained, are three, contained in a book printed and published at Florence, in the year 1477, entitled ''Monte Santo di Dio'' and are the joint performance of two Florentine goldsmiths, Baccio Baldini and Sandro Botticelli, who also engraved the plates for the edition of Dante, published at the same place in 1 48 1.
