Two of the Northampton gilds imply that it is not worth while to interfere with them, for they are poor little fraternities.* Five gilds had as their object the maintenance of the church fabric, and in each of the three places where they were located the church roof would soon have to be rebuilt, therefore they pray, for the sake of God, that they may not be disturbed.
